This month The Grawn turns its attention to the relationship between the human figure and the natural world, as interpreted by a generation of Downtown Los Angeles artists working across painting, sculpture and mixed media. The March issue takes its cue from Human - Nature, the group exhibition currently running at Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts on South Hope Street.

The show brings together six artists whose practices circle a common preoccupation: what remains of nature in an increasingly urban consciousness? The works range from intimate oil studies of erosion patterns and geological formations to large-scale canvases in which the human body dissolves into landscape. It is a quietly political exhibition, arriving at a moment when Downtown LA's own transformation from industrial wasteland to creative neighbourhood feels both complete and irreversible.

Elsewhere in this issue: a survey of the emerging gallery scene on Chung King Road, a profile of the ceramic artists working out of the Row DTLA studios, and our regular listings of openings, closings and events across Gallery Row, the Arts District and the Historic Core. The Gallery Row art walk returns on the second Thursday of the month — see our calendar for full details.

The Grawn is published monthly and distributed free throughout Downtown Los Angeles. Back issues are available from the gallery.
